An incensed customer at a Maryland Papa John’s pizza shop is facing an assault charge after he was stabbed by a store employee defending himself during a potentially volatile incident, according to multiple reports.
Members of the Harford County Sheriff's Office responded to the eatery in the 1000 block of Woodbridge Center Way after receiving a report about a dispute over pizza and toppings, officials said.
The incident began late on Wednesday, Aug. 17.
According to reports, upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies found Edgewood resident Herbert Harris, 40, inside the store with a stab wound, alleging that a 26-year-old employee attacked him.
Harris was treated at the scene and transported to an area hospital for further evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries, according to reports.
The initial investigation by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office found that Harris had a complaint about his order after picking it up, and returned to the store with complaints, prompting an argument that turned physical.
During the altercation, investigators said that Harris went behind the counter to confront the employee, at which point the cornered worker grabbed a utensil and stabbed Harris in an attempt to defend himself.
Harris suffered minor injuries, but remained at the store until first responders arrived to levy his complaint.
The investigation led to the arrest of Harris - not the employee - who was charged with second-degree assault after his arrest from the hospital for his role in the incident, according to the sheriff.
